Have you started losing your hair and are now spending hours in front of a mirror thinking of a way to deal with this problem while looking at your ever thinner hair? Well, think no longer as help is on its way and it is called Propecia!

Losing your hair and potential baldness can be a really embarrassing thing, especially if you are under 40 years old. And believe me, male pattern baldness, or androgenic alopecia, does not choose its victims. Anyone can have this problem, but it somehow becomes much terrible if it happens to someone young. I know, for instance, some people who have started losing hair in their twenties.

Causes of hair loss

There can be a number of reasons for hair loss. Aging is usually one of the biggest causes, but it is not unknown that someone in their 70’s retains all of his hair, while a person in their 30’s is already half-bald. Another reason for hair loss may be due to using certain medications or a result of chemotherapy. Stress can also cause you to start losing hair. Certain diseases will also contribute to this problem. And finally, one of the biggest causes of hair loss is genetic. If your family has a history of men losing hair, unfortunately, you have a good chance of following in their steps.

Dosage: How is Propecia 1mg taken?

Take only one dose of Propecia each day, taking more than that may cause you to suffer some health problems. Also, remember that it will not cure you of this problem completely, but only treat it as long as you are taking it. This means that if you stop taking Propecia at any point, even years from when you first started taking it, the problem may return at some point.

You should also keep in mind the fact that Propecia only treats a condition that is known as androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness) and not some other causes of hair loss and that it will work only for men and not for women.

How does Propecia act against hair loss in the first place?

Propecia is a DHT inhibitor, which means that it prevents further creation of a this hormone, similar to testosterone. When there is too much of this hormone in your body it causes your hair follicles to shrink due to the lack of blood they are receiving through the arteries and are unable to grow more hair. In time this causes your hair to recede in certain places, especially at the vertex. This is exactly what Propecia prevents as it works to allow blood flow into those hair follicles.

Effectiveness studies of Propecia

One of the largest studies done with Propecia is based on an observation of 3,177 Japanese men with androgenetic alopecia over a three-year period. The initial findings of the study participants spanned various degrees of severity of hereditary hair loss, which were recorded photographically. In the three-year study, 1 milligram of Propecia was administered daily.

The test results were published in 2009. In a total of 2561 study participants, a significant decrease in hair loss was observed using the before and after photography. This means that the noticeable effectiveness of Propecia was demonstrated in 87.1% of the cases in this study.

A sharp decrease in hair loss showed a total of 11.1% percent of the test subjects. 36.5% percent of the participating men showed a moderate result, while 39.5% percent saw a slight decrease in hair loss. The duration of the Propecia intake played an important role in the lighter effectiveness. The study was designed as a long-term study and proved that the longer the time it was taken, the more effective the effectiveness would be.

Another scientific study looked at the effectiveness of Propecia against hereditary hair loss over a period of one year. This was primarily about frontal hair loss, such as deep receding hairline or thinning hair of at least one square centimeter. The result was the effectiveness in a noticeable hair loss stop. It was also observed that Propecia promotes and accelerates hair growth.
